Open Shelf was created by experienced self‑publishers who want to make the journey easier for others. Self‑publishing can feel isolating, and too often the only support available means exposing yourself to the noise and negativity of social media.

We’ve been through the process ourselves and hold academic qualifications in creative writing. Our aim is simple: to share what we’ve learned and offer clear, practical guidance through our Support page, so you don’t have to navigate everything alone.

Open Shelf also exists to recreate something self‑publishers often miss — the sense of belonging to a wider catalogue. Traditional publishers bring together many authors and many books under one banner, giving each title a little more weight and visibility. We want to echo that spirit. By featuring a range of self‑published books and authors in one place, we create a shared space where every writer benefits from the presence of others.
