Do I Need a Website as an Author?

You don’t need a website to be a self‑published author - plenty manage without one - but having one gives you a stable, professional home that you control. Social platforms shift, algorithms change, but a website stays yours.

When a Website Helps

  • You want a single place to send readers, reviewers, or event organisers.

  • You’re building a long‑term career and want a professional presence.

  • You’d like to collect email sign‑ups without relying on social media.

  • You want somewhere to host extras: book lists, updates, contact info.

When You Might Skip It

  • You’re publishing one book with no plans for more.

  • You already have an active platform elsewhere and prefer to keep things simple.

  • You don’t want the extra maintenance.

The Good News

You don’t need to design anything from scratch. Many website builders offer author‑focused templates with book pages, newsletter sign‑ups, and clean layouts already in place. Most also have easy drag‑and‑drop tools, so you can build a simple, polished site without technical skills.

A website isn’t mandatory - but for many self‑published authors, it’s a low‑effort way to look professional, stay discoverable, and give readers a place to land. We don't have any plans to offer website design as a service but if you are really struggling do ask about it.
